Photography Goals in 2014

There are a lot of things I want to work on this year and my one little word℠ for the year is FOCUS. Focus on my family, nutrition, fitness, business, spending, and organizing. I achieved a lot last year with my word ACHIEVE and so this year I want to FOCUS on perfecting those achievements. I have specific nutrition and saving goals but photography goals are what I’ll be sharing with you today. Looking forward to the road ahead for 2014.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY GOALS

1. In Person Order Sessions
This is my biggest change this year. I firmly believe that digital images are important BUT you aren’t going to pass down a disk or a hardrive over to your posterity. Pixels don’t mean a thing if they are lost on your computer. Leaving behind a framed picture, an album or a box of prints is worth so much when you can enjoy them on a daily basis and when your children and grandchildren can participate.

2. Professional Image Slideshows
I want to have some fun with client images and they should enjoy them more often! What better way to make images and emotional experience than enjoying them in a digital setting set to fun music.

3. Wonderful Packaging
I’m so excited for my new branding and will be incorporating it into great packaging this year. With my in person order sessions, clients will keep physical items to treasure forever and I will deliver them in exceptional style.

4. Exceptional Customer Service
I always take care of my clients but I know there’s always more I can do. It’s all about the little details and going above and beyond to WOW them and to be different than other photographers in the Las Vegas area.

5. Blogging a session right after delivery to client
I do take pride that all my clients receive their final images right on time but towards the end of the year I slacked on blogging sessions. I just need to incorporate blogging into my client workflow.

6. More styled shoots
I’m hoping to collaborate with great businesses and models to continue to build my portfolio, refine my shooting style and inspire myself and others. Anything from a bridal shoot to high school seniors. I LOVE the styled shoot I did last year.

7. Continue education
I have a wonderful workshop lined up, need to finish a marketing course and hope to attend WPPI again this year. Keeping up with current photography and business skills is a must for any professional photographer.

8. Perfect my workflow
I’ve really got a set workflow down but I want to perfect it and make it more efficient. There is always a way to make something simpler, faster and better.

9. Focus on my ideal clients
There are many types of photographers but there are many types of clients as well. The best photography experiences are when both are in agreement about style, value, preferences and even interests! For example, as much as I LOVE animals, I’m not a pet or wildlife photographer. Even more detailed is that yes I love newborn photography but not the posed, hanging from a stick newborn photography. Just not my style. I DO love lifestyle newborn photography where there are candid, journalist moments of welcoming in new life. Get what I mean? So I want to work with those that share my style of photography and really value it’s documentary place in their life. When two things fit together, it just makes for such an amazing

but that’s not it…I have goals for myself and not just my business as well :)

 PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY GOALS

1. Complete a Project 365…a picture everyday!
I BASICALLY take a picture everyday at least on my phone and this year it would be fun to make an end of the year collage or photobook with all my images.

2. Take monthly pictures of my son along with a journal entry
I take pictures of my son all the time and we did his 1 year old portraits plus some holiday shots but it would be fun to do little mini photoshoots each month. He might be the only child until 2015! Fingers crossed! PLUS I want to journal more and recap his little life at this age. I did pretty good for about 6 months right after he was born but I definitely need to revisit this. Thankfully I have a picture of every moment and milestone that is important to write about!

3. Keep up on personal pictures
I actually do awesome when it comes to editing my client’s images on time and I seem to stay up to date with all of my own images so I just want to continue this. There are a FEW projects I need to finalize so I will catch up soon! There is nothing better than capturing the simple things in life.

4. Apply for CMPro at the end of the year
There is a wonderful online community of photographers and they all focus on different genres of photography but what joins them together is their love of photography, their family and their documenting. They have a special select of Professionals that in turn have opportunities to become more involved and I would love to accomplish this!

5. Make a Blurb book for the whole year
I can print our 2014 album with all our images and stories. I have all my images ready but I also want to print out 2009-2013…eeek!

6. Embrace the camera
I want my son to remember that I was playing with him too!! I want my posterity to remember that I had fun by myself and others as well. Just jump in the picture more!

7. Capturing Summer
Similar to capturing the magic of Fall and December (which comes so easily). I want to really enjoy this summer because my son will be 2 years old and I’m sure this year we’ll have more fun in the sun, water, parks, etc. Last year we did have a great vacation time though! See my Disney trip and Lake Trip!

8. Day in the Life of for myself and my son
I want to capture what a typical day at 18 months/24 months age looks like and one for me and remember all the craziness of being a stay at home working mom!

So there you go! I love the feeling of a fresh start. I’m horribly sick right now with no voice but I keep chugging along and focusing on what I need to do. What are your goals for this year?
